Marie participated in the panel "Short Story to Novel" with writers Tea Obreht, Alexi Zentner, Heidi Durrow and Eugenia Kim.

February 5th, Associated Writers Program, Washington DC
Marie read an excerpt from her novel with writers Porochista Khapour, Reese Kwan, Hasanthika Sirisena and Tiphanie Yanique.

March 18th, Virginia Books Festival.
Marie read an excerpt from her novel.

April 17th, KGB Bar.
Marie participated in a celebration of Penelope Fitzgerald's life in an event curated by Ellis Avery. Other participants included Jonathan Franzen, Joan Accocella, and Ellis Avery.

April 18th, Monmouth College, New Jersey.
Marie delivered a lecture on post-tsunami Japan to students.

May 7th, Tenri Foundation.
Marie participated in a fundraiser for tsunami relief.

As profiled in Time Out, Marie and feminist blogger and fan Amanda Recupido discussed feminism, fairy tales and more.

March 21st, Adelphi University, Manhattan Campus, New York.
Marie discussed new media and book marketing with Susan Henderson of LitPark in a talk moderated by Robert Gray.

April 21st, Kansas City Library, Kansas City, Missouri.
Picking Bones from Ash was selected as the book of the month by the venerable Kansas City Library, and Marie was on hand to meet readers and share her book with them.

May 21st, 6-8pm. Girls Write Now "Chapters" Reading Series, Center for Fiction, New York.
Marie read about talented women to a group of talented girls and their mentors.

June 12th, 3pm. Mixed Roots Film and Literary Festival, Japanese-American National Museum, Los Angeles.
Marie read a portion from her novel at an annual festival celebrating anyone with mixed heritage.

September 17th, 7pm. Asian-American Writers' Workshop. In an event called "Our So-Called Lives" Marie read from her novel. Also reading were the talented poet Oliver de la Paz and novelist Tishani Doshi.

August 12-23 ~ Bread Loaf Writers' Conference , Ripton, Vermont.
Marie attended the famed literary conference as a Scholar. Her reading from Picking Bones from Ash was made available on iTunes.

September 13 ~ Brooklyn Book Festival, Brooklyn Borough Hall
Marie read excerpts from her novel in the St. Francis Reading Room. Also featured Shanthi Sekaran (The Prayer Room), Marc Fitten (Valeria's Last Stand), and Joanna Smith Rakoff (A Fortunate Age).

Book release party at CLMP offices at 7pm. Drinks and munchies, celebrations and hob-nobbing.

October 8-11th ~ Wordstock, Portland, Oregon
Marie attended Wordstock Book Festival when she wasn't loading up on goodies from Powells.

October 10th ~ Wordstock. Marie read in the Exhibit Hall with poet Marilyn Chin.

October 11th ~ Wordstock. Marie taught a workshop on "The True Business of Writing: Starting a Career."

October 11th ~ Wordstock. Marie participated in a panel of debut novelists on the Columbia Sportswear Stage including novelist Naseem Rakha and Patrick DeWitt.

Marie read excerpts from her novel at 5pm at Seattle's legendary independent bookstore.

October 15th ~ Carmel-by-the-Sea, California
Marie read excerpts from her novel at 7pm at the Sunset Center in her home town of Carmel-by-the-Sea. The reading will be followed by a Q&A and book signing, with proceeds to benefit the Carmel Library Fall campaign.
